시드와 할아버지의 아름다운 여행
할아버지의 집에 간 시드는 어느 날 다락방을 보게 됩니다. 다락방에는 오래된 축음기, 여행 기념품들, 손수 그린 그림까지 할아버지의 물건들이 가득했습니다. 그런데 다락방의 한쪽 벽에 가려져 있던 커다란 철문을 열자 신기하게도 바다가 나타납니다. 할아버지의 집은 멋진 배가 되어 바다를 건넜고 둘은 아름다운 섬에 도착합니다. 섬에서 할아버지는 항상 가지고 다니던 지팡이도 배에 둔 채로 행복하게 여행을 합니다.
할아버지 없이 혼자 돌아 오는 길, 시드의 성장
돌아갈 시간이 되었을 때 할아버지가 혼자 섬에 남겠다고 합니다. 시드는 할아버지가 많이 걱정 되었지만 환하게 웃으며 배웅하는 할아버지를 꼭 안아 드리고 혼자서 배에 오릅니다. 집으로 돌아가는 바다는 할아버지와 함께였을 때보다 더 험하고 어둡게 느껴졌지만 시드는 할아버지를 생각하며 넓은 바다를 건너 무사히 건넙니다. 할아버지는 정말 섬에서 돌아오지 않을까요? 할아버지가 너무 보고 싶으면 어떻게 해야 할까요?
언제나 할아버지를 사랑해요. 할아버지도 저를 사랑하죠.
집에 도착한 시드는 이제는 할아버지의 집에 가도 더 이상은 할아버지를 볼 수 없다는 것을 알게 됩니다. 그 사실이 너무나 가슴 아팠지만 할아버지와 함께했던 즐거웠던 시간을 떠올리며 할아버지가 함께 여행했던 섬에서 외롭지도, 심심하지도 않을 거라고 생각합니다. 시드는 할아버지와의 마지막 여행을 통해서 자연스럽게 할아버지와의 이별을 받아 들이게 됩니다.

But one day when Syd comes to call, Grandad isn’t in any of the usual places.
